  2. My stand on the death penalty is that it should be used for heavy crime cases. I say that the death penalty should be used if someone committed murder or heavy treason towards a country. If you do not act and give proper punishment to those kinds of people, then they will commit the same crime if they escape from prison. It should never be used for any crime lower than this because losing the life of any loved one can be very difficult and painful and it also morally wrong to take the life of someone if they committed a lesser crime. Like theft without the physical or emotional harm of anyone. Even though the death penalty will not lower the crime rate, it is still not justice to free someone from a crime that they committed. Also, the death penalty should only be executed if they convicted person agrees that the committed the act or they do not try very hard to defend themselves from court. If they feel strongly that they did not commit this crime, then they should be held in prison for a year and given a year to find any evidence that proves their innocence and their trial should be held in one year. If they cannot find anything, they should held in prison for life. If they find any evidence that proves their innocence, they should be freed. This should be done, because the convicted person may have framed and we cannot kill an innocent person. And due to increase in DNA tests, it will easier to free an innocent person. This is my stand on the death penalty.
